I tried both the BIS/BES and TCP connections and during this time I was able to still use the other app on my phone. I've personally never seen the Fail Whale but I've only been using Twitter for a couple of weeks. I am going to have my friend install this on his Sprint 8330 and see if there may be an issue with the newer Curves or just T-Mobile. I reloaded mine and tried Blackbird again with no success. I’ve personally never seen the Fail Whale but I’ve only been using Twitter for a couple of weeks.
